Add-on modules work for door operation during outages - you can still open and close the door. What they typically don't do: keep the smart connectivity active. The WiFi module may not run on add-on backup power, so you lose app control during the outage even though the door itself works.

If smart connectivity during outages matters - integrated backup is the right choice. If you just want the door to work mechanically - add-on module is a cheaper way to get there.

Battery life during an outage - real numbers
